In the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, when all objects are digitized, the meaning of media in our lives is further expanded. Accordingly, media literacy education is being implemented within the national curriculum, emphasizing media literacy as a core competency to prepare for the future society in countries around the world. Although Korea also encourages active media literacy education, it is difficult to implement it in the school field due to the lack of discussion at the level of public education and specific program organization. Therefore, a systematic education program that fosters media literacy, which is the ability to read media and cope with it, should be introduced at the level of school education for teenagers who will live in a media-based knowledge and information society. Media literacy is a complex competency and attitude that demands critical and creative problem-solving skills by understanding social culture in the media environment as well as media utilization ability. This cannot be achieved only through single subject learning, and when a convergent approach is made between various subjects, its capabilities can be effectively exhibited. In addition, as an educational innovation to cope with the unpredictable future society, the 2015 revised curriculum presents the direction of 'creative and convergent talent training', so subject convergence classes are more oriented than ever. Therefore, this study aims to develop a media literacy convergence subject class unit through the linkage of achievement standards with other subjects, focusing on art subjects closely related to media literacy because it deals aesthetically with visual culture. Currently, the term 'media literacy' is not used in the Korean curriculum, but media literacy is dealt with in different aspects depending on the characteristics of the subject by explicitly mentioning the achievement criteria for media learning for each subject. In order to understand how media literacy education is currently being conducted in the art curriculum, this study analyzed learning activities related to the field of media literacy by selecting five textbooks revised in the 2015 curriculum middle school. As a result, the art department was mainly dealt with in terms of the function of understanding and expressing the meaning of text in visual culture, which is related to the core competencies of media literacy, 'Critical Understanding of Media' and 'Creative Production of Media'. However, there were no activities dealing with the media literacy itself, and the experience of interpreting and expressing as visual images through media-related learning was focused only on the area of understanding the essence of media itself and the ethical aspect of media use. By grasping these problems, this study developed a teaching guidance plan for a media literacy learning unit that can balance the understanding of the nature of media and the ability to use media. This study attempted an integrated approach between subject-centered subjects based on the principle of curriculum reorganization announced to organize the media literacy school curriculum in the policy study of the Ministry of Education. In addition, you can experience various media learning in which art, experience, expression, and appreciation areas are organically combined with core media literacy competencies by organically organically forming cross-curricular themes "Fake News," "Cyber Ethics Campaign," and "Environmental Protection Public Advertisement." This is also in line with the purpose of competency education linked to life emphasized by the Ministry of Education, and can help develop future core competencies that can actively respond to social changes in digital transformation. Therefore, it is hoped that through the media literacy subject convergence class proposed by this study, learners can enhance media literacy capabilities to understand various social and cultural environments of media in connection with life, critically accept media based on their own subjectivity, and enjoy media as democratic citizens. In addition, while media literacy education is being treated as an important competency in the 21st century for the future society, I hope that the art curriculum will actively develop media literacy education that can be implemented in the school field.
