Psychological and social interactions experienced in adolescence have a significant impact on the formation of self-identity and the process to become a healthy social member. Adolescents who spend their adolescence in shelters, separated from on intimate terms fosterer are placed in vulnerable psychological environments such as abuse and separation anxiety, which destabilize their self-identity and negatively affect their growth as healthy members of society. In this respect, psychological education and social support are essential so that adolescents in institutions can overcome pessimistic social interactions or psychological vulnerabilities and develop into healthy social members. In particular, the following are the psychological preparations considered important for the independence of facility youth: Self-elasticity that allows you to get yourself back on your feet without easily being frustrated in difficult environments or situations, self-efficacy that makes you feel valued for your existential value and utility, and emotional intelligence that enables self-directed and positive emotional outcomes to be achieved in interaction with others. In addition, for these psychological factors to be positively formed, it can be considered very important to support social support in the parenting environment. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the structural relationship between emotional intelligence and self-efficacy in the perspective of social support and self-elasticity as a variable influencing the self-elasticity of facility youth based on previous studies. The subjects of this study were adolescents living in facilities, from the first year of middle school to the third year of high school, and the ages are 13 to 18. The survey was conducted for 31 days from October 1 to October 31, 2022 after a preliminary preparation period. A total of 155 respondents responded to the survey, and a total of 131 copies of the survey were used for analysis, excluding 24 questionnaires that were inappropriate for analysis, such as missing or unfaithful responses. The model and hypothesis were verified using the SPSS 28.0 statistical package and PROCESS V4.2 for SPSS. The relationship between each variable, the mediation effect, and the dual mediation effect were verified, and the statistical significance of the mediating effect was confirmed through bootstrapping. The main research results according to the verification are as follows. First, social support perceived by facility adolescents had a positive effect on emotional intelligence, emotional intelligence affects positively on their self-efficacy, and self-efficacy had a positive influence on self-elasticity sequentially. Accordingly, it was confirmed that emotional intelligence and self-efficacy have a dual (sequential) mediation effect in the relationship between social support and self-elasticity perceived by institutionalized adolescents. Second, the each of mediation effect of emotional intelligence and the self-efficacy was identified in the relationship where social support perceived by facility adolescents affects self-elasticity. This indicates that social support is able to be considered as a direct cause of the improvement of self-elasticity of facility adolescents, and social support directly affects emotional intelligence and self-efficacy, showing a mediation effect on self-elasticity. Third, in the verification of each sub-variable of social support, emotional support and material support showed the same results as social support, but in the verification of information support and evaluation support, there was no mediation effect of self-efficacy. It could be considered that informational support and evaluation support did not directly affect self-efficacy. However, this model was also found to have a sequential mediation effect in which social support affects self-elasticity through emotional intelligence and self-efficacy. Therefore, if the importance of psychological factors for the independence of facility youth is recognized, it seems that the applying periodical support program would be necessary through the development of psychological education programs which can enhance self-elasticity, emotional intelligence, and self-efficacy. In addition, stable support measures of social welfare policies should be devised so that the social support of the fosterer in the life care center, which is their caregiver, can be positively and continuously implemented.
