남아가 여야에 비해 외현적 공격 행동을 보이기 쉬운 이유는? 이러한 연구 결과와 남아의 공격 행동이 여아보다 허용적인 한국의 사회문화적 분위기를 고려해볼 때, 남아는 여아보다 확실히 외현적 공격 행동을 보이기 쉽다고 생각된다. 부모, 교사 및 또래 등은 여아보다 남아의 외현적 공격성에 대해 더 허용적인 편이며, 여아에게는 공격 행동에 제한을 두는 등 성별에 따라 차별화된 반응을 보이므로 이러한 차별화된 반응이 남아의 공격행동을 강화하며 여아의 공격행동을 다소 낮추게 되는 것이다. Underwood(2003)는 문화적 배경은 남아가 외현적 공격 행동을 쉽게 하도록 만드는 중요한 요인 중 하나라고 설명하였다.
