노인병원에서 근무하는 간호사에게 환자의 죽음은 어떠한 영향을 나타내는가? 여러 노인병원에서 다년간 간호사로 근무한 연구자는 노인 환자의 많은 죽음을 경험했다. 노인병원에서 오랜 기간 함께 지내오던 환자가 죽었을 때 정신적 충격이 컸고 이는 신체적 반응으로 나타났다. 함께 근무하는 간호사들도 환자 죽음 순간을 피하고 싶다는 말을 자주 했으며, 임종간호 후 정신적 스트레스 때문에 신체적 증상을 호소하곤 했다.
