본 연구에서는 게임을 활용한 과학수업이 초등학생의 과학 학습 동기 및 학업성취도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보기 위하여 실시하였다. 이를 위하여 3학년 2개 반을 실험집단과 비교집단으로 선정하여 연구집단에서는 게임을 활용한 수업으로 과학수업을 처치하였고, 비교집단에서는 교사용 지도서에 따르는 일반적인 수업을 진행하였다. 실험 처치 기간은 8주로 11차시에 걸쳐 게임을 활용한 과학수업을 실시하였으며 그 결과는 다음과 같았다. 첫째, 게임을 활용한 과학수업은 과학 학습 동기 향상에 효과가 있었다. 둘째, 게임을 활용한 초등과학수업은 과학 학업성취도 향상에 유의미한 효과가 있었다. 또한 인터뷰를 통해 수업에서 소외되던 학생들이 수업에 적극적으로 참여하게 되고 학습동기를 가지게 됨을 확인할 수 있었다.
