뉴로피드백 훈련은 무엇인가? 그 중 생기능자기조절 훈련(뉴로피드백 훈련)은 훈련 대상자가 자신의 뇌파상태에 대해 실시간으로 피드백을 받으며 원하는 방향으로 뇌파를 변화시켜 뇌기능을 향상시키는 훈련으로14), 비침습적이고 현재까지 위험한 부작용은 보고되지 않은 안전한 치료이며15), 약물요법 등 다른 치료와 병행하여 적용 가능하다는 장점이 있다. 또한 학습을 통한 뇌 기능의 변화가 수 주간 유지된다는 연구 결과16)와 뇌의 미세구조의 변화 가능성을 시사하는 연구 보고도 있어17), 뉴로피드백 훈련을 통해 장기적이고 근본적인 치료 효과를 기대할 수도 있을 것으로 예상된다.
