본 연구의 목적은 어머니의 놀이신념과 유아의 또래 유능성의 관계에서 유아 놀이성의 매개효과를 알아보는 것이다. 연구대상으로 J지역에 소재한 유아교육기관의 만 4~5세 유아 160명과 그 어머니 160명을 선정하였고, 어머니의 놀이신념과 유아의 놀이성, 또래 유능성에 관한 설문조사를 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 통계 프로그램을 사용하여 상관분석과 매개분석을 실시하였다. 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 어머니의 놀이신념과 유아의 놀이성, 또래 유능성 간의 관계를 분석한 결과, 어머니 놀이신념의 하위요인 중 '놀이지지' 신념과 유아의 놀이성, 또래 유능성 간의 유의한 정적 상관이 나타났다. 반면, 어머니 놀이신념의 하위요인 중 '학습중심' 신념과 유아의 놀이성, 또래 유능성 간의 관계는 유의하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 유아의 놀이성과 또래 유능성 간의 관계에서는 유의한 정적 상관이 나타났다. 둘째, 어머니의 '놀이지지' 신념과 유아의 또래 유능성의 관계에서 유아 놀이성의 매개효과를 검증한 결과, 놀이성이 부분 매개역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 연구의 결과를 통해 어머니의 '놀이지지' 신념이 유아의 놀이성을 높이고 이로 인해 유아의 또래 유능성에 정적인 영향력을 증가시킴을 확인할 수 있었다. 개정 누리과정의 실효성을 위하여 부모와 지역사회의 협조를 강조하고 있는 바, 본 논문에서는 어머니의 놀이에 대한 신념이 유아의 놀이성 및 또래유능성에 영향을 미치고 있음을 검증하였다는 측면에서 의미가 있다. 추후 부모를 대상으로 한 놀이에 대한 인식전환 및 놀이참여 방법 등 놀이관련 교육이 활성화 되어야 할 것이다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of young children's playfulness between the children's peer competence and their mothers' play beliefs. For this study, 160 mothers and 160 children aged 4-5 years who were in kindergarten and daycare centers in Area J were selected. The collected data were analyzed based on correlation and mediation using SPSS Statistics. The research results are as follows. First, as a result of analyzing the relationship between the young children's peer competence and playfulness and their mothers' play beliefs, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between a mother's play-support beliefs and their children's peer competence and playfulness. On the other hand, the relationship between a mother's learning-support beliefs and her child's peer competence and playfulness was not significant. There was a significant positive correlation between playfulness and peer competence in the young children. Second, as a result of verifying the mediating effect of the children's playfulness in the relationship between their mothers' play-support belief and the children's peer competence, we found that playfulness has a partial mediating role.

제안 방법

본 조사는 2019년 7월1일부터 7월26일까지 실시하였다. 유아의 놀이성과 또래 유능성에 대한 교사의 평정 이 객관적이고 정확하게 수행될 수 있도록 연구자가 해당기관을 직접 방문하여 검사 도구에 대한 설명을 하였으며, 평소 각 유아를 관찰한 결과를 근거로 하여 평정하도록 하였다. 어머니의 놀이신념에 대한 설문지는 연구에 대한 부모의 동의를 구하는 안내문과 설문지 작성에 대한 안내문을 동봉하여 234부가 가정으로 배부되었으며 이 중 175부가 회수되었다.

대상 데이터

본 연구의 대상은 J지역에 소재한 7개의 유아교육기관 (유치원, 어린이집)을 임의 선정한 후, 연구동의를 얻은 기관에 재원중인 만 4-5세 유아 160명과 그들의 어머니 160명이다. 연구대상의 일반적인 배경은 Table 1과 같다.
어머니의 설문지가 회수된 유아에 한하여 담임교사가 유아의 놀이성과 또래 유능성을 평정하였다. 부모와 교사로부터 회수된 설문지 중 응답내용이 불충분하거나 무응답이 있는 15부를 제외하고 최종 160부를 연구자료로 사용하였다.

데이터처리

조사 대상자들의 일반적 특성과 어머니의 놀이신념, 유아의 놀이성, 유아의 또래 유능성 수준을 알아보기 위하여 빈도와 백분율, 평균과 표준편차를 구하는 기술통계를 실시하였다. 어머니의 놀이신념, 유아의 놀이성, 유아의 또래 유능성 간의 관계를 알아보기 위하여 Pearson의 상관관계 분석을 실시하였고, 어머니의 놀이 신념과 유아의 또래 유능성의 관계에서 유아 놀이성의 매개효과를 알아보기 위하여 Baron과 Kenny(1986)의 절차에 따라 회귀분석을 실시하였다[43]. 유아 놀이성의 매개효과가 통계적으로 유의미한지 확인하기 위하여 Sobel test를 실시하였다.

이론/모형

어머니의 놀이신념을 측정하기 위하여 Fogel(2003) 이 개발한 부모 놀이신념 척도(The Parent Play Beliefs Scale: PPBS)를 이현지(2016)가 번안한 것을 사용하였다[21, 42]. 이 도구는 2개의 하위요인인 놀이지지(17문항)와 학습중심(8문항), 총 25문항으로, ‘놀이지지’는 놀이가 유아의 발달에 도움이 되는 즐거운 활동이 라고 믿는 신념과 관련된 문항, ‘학습중심’은 놀이가 유아의 발달에 도움이 되지 않는다고 믿으며 학습적 활동을 중요시하는 신념과 관련된 문항으로 구성되어 있다.
유아의 놀이성을 측정하기 위하여 Barnett(1990)이 제작한 유아용 놀이성 척도(Children’s Playfulness Scale: CPS)를 유애열(1994)이 번안하고 박선영(2010)이 수정‧보완한 것을 사용하였다[30, 31, 37]. 이 도구는 5개의 하위요인으로 신체적 자발성(4문항), 사회적 자발성(5문항), 인지적 자발성(4문항), 즐거움의 표현(5문항), 유머감각(5문항), 총 23문항으로 구성되었다.
유아의 또래 유능성을 측정하기 위하여 박주희, 이은 해(2001)가 개발한 또래 유능성 척도를 사용하였다[9]. 이 도구의 하위요인은 사교성(5문항), 친사회성(5문항), 주도성(5문항), 총 15문항으로, 사교성은 또래와 잘 어울리고 또래 집단에 잘 수용되는 능력을 의미하며 친사회 성은 다른 유아를 잘 도와주고 사이좋게 지내며 또래에게 민감하고 긍정적인 방식으로 반응하며 갈등이 생겼을때 효과적으로 해결하는 능력을 의미한다.

성능/효과

또한 본 연구에서 어머니의 놀이지지 신념과 같은 인지적 변인은 유아의 또래관계, 사회적 유능성을 높이는데 직접적인 영향을 줄 뿐만 아니라 유아의 놀이성을 매개로 유아의 또래관계 수준을 높이는데 간접적인 영향을 미친다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 어머니는 유아의 놀이와 관련된 중요한 환경적 요소로, 어머니의 놀이지지 신념이 유아의 놀이성향을 발달시키고 또래와 긍정적인 관계를 형성하는데 중요한 역할을 한다.
유아의 놀이성과 또래 유능성 간의 관계를 알아본 결과, 유의한 정적 상관이 나타났다. 이는 유아의 놀이성이 높을수록 또래와 효과적인 또래 관계를 형성하고 유지하는 능력이 높다는 연구[32, 47], 놀이성과 창의적 사고, 의사소통능력, 대인문제해결능력 발달과 관련이 있다는 연구[34, 35, 36]들과 유사한 결과로 유아의 놀이성은 유아의 전반적인 발달과 관련이 있음을 시사하는 내용이다.

후속연구

마지막으로 본 연구는 특정 지역에 소재한 유치원과 어린이집 어머니와 유아를 대상으로 하였기 때문에 연구 결과를 일반화하는 데 한계가 있으나, 유아의 사회적 능력과 유아의 놀이성 증진에서 어머니의 놀이에 대한 긍정적 신념의 중요성을 확인하였다는 측면에서 의미가 있다. 2020년 3월 시행되는 개정 누리과정의 실효성을 위하여 부모와 지역사회의 협조를 강조하고 있는 바, 부모의 놀이에 대한 인식 및 놀이지도 방법 등과 관련한 활발한 연구가 추후 지속되어야 할 것이다.
이는 유아중심, 놀이중심을 모토(motto)로 개정된 누리과정 시행과 맞물려 부모의 놀이에 대한 인식전환을 위한 시의 적절한 부모지원이 될 것이다. 이러한 측면에서 중앙육아종합지원센터[49]에서 시행하고 있는 부모의 놀이참여 태도 점검교육은 부모의 놀이신념과 관련하여 상당히 고무적인 일이라 생각되며 추후 부모를 대상으로 하는 놀이관련 교육이 활성화되어야 할 것이다.
