2015교육과정에 '한 학기 한 권 읽기'가 도입되면서 동일한 도서를 학급단위로 읽는 활동이 늘어나고 있다. 이에 따라 사서(교사)는 학급단위로 이루어지는 교사의 도서추천과 도서선정 과정을 적절히 지원해야 할 필요가 있다. 이 연구는 학급에서 교사가 추천한 한 권의 책을 읽을 때 초등학생의 독서흥미에 어떤 차이를 가져오는지 파악하여, 이를 토대로 효과적인 학교도서관 서비스를 마련하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 A초등학교 전체 학생을 대상으로 학급별 투표를 통해 교사추천도서 중 한 책을 정해 읽는 도서선택 수업을 진행하고, 독서를 전후로 학생들의 독서흥미도를 조사하였다. 그 결과, 자신이 선택한 도서를 읽은 학생은 자신이 선택하지 않은 도서를 읽은 학생보다 높은 '독서 후 흥미'를 보였다. 그러나 자신이 선택하지 않은 도서를 읽었어도 '독서 전 흥미'가 높았던 학생은 '독서 후 흥미'가 높게 나타났다. 독서 전 흥미는 도서정보를 골고루 제공받고 학교도서관 이용 빈도가 높았던 학생일수록 높게 나타났다. 따라서 사서(교사)는 자기 선택적 독서에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 독서 전 흥미를 높일 수 있도록 도서 정보를 다양하게 제공하고, 학교도서관 이용 빈도를 높일 수 있는 서비스를 제공할 필요가 있다.
