교사는 학생들의 학습 경험을 구성하는 주체이다. 따라서 교사 행위주체성을 바탕으로 맥락에 대하여 적극적으로 해석하고, 맥락에 적절한 학습 환경을 조성하기 위해 노력해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 COVID-19으로 인하여 실시된 원격 수업의 실행에서 어떠한 교사 행위주체성이 발현되었는지 탐색하고, 이에 영향을 미친 요인을 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 6인의 중등학교 과학교사가 2020학년도에 수행한 원격 수업 실행을 대상으로 질적 사례 연구를 진행하였다. 연구 참여자와의 인터뷰, 연구 참여자가 실제 사용한 교육자료를 수집하고 이를 귀납적으로 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 교사 행위주체성을 교사가 의도를 가지고 행동하는 것으로 개인이 가지고 있는 신념과 목표를 바탕으로 개인과 그가 속한 사회를 능동적으로 해석하고 재구성하는 일련의 행위를 통하여 드러나는 것으로 보았다. 또한, 이는 교사가 위치한 맥락과의 관계적 상호작용을 통해 성취할 수 있는 것으로 보았다. 연구 결과, 교사는 상황을 인식하고 능동적으로 대응하여 적극적으로 변화를 만들거나, 자신의 실행을 일관적으로 유지하였다. 교사 행위주체성의 발현은 원격 수업의 상황에서도 과거의 경험으로부터 형성한 가치 및 교육적 목표를 실천하기 위하여 적절한 교수·학습 접근을 취하거나 필요한 기술을 학습할 때 촉진되었다. 또한, COVID-19 상황에서 차질없이 수업을 제공하려는 단기적인 목표 혹은 교사가 미래의 교육에 대해 가지고 있는 장기적인 목표를 추구하는 과정에서 교사 행위주체성의 발현은 추진력을 얻었다. 또한, 현재 교사가 위치한 맥락의 협력적이고 유연한 학교 문화, 교사들 사이의 활발한 협력, 수업을 진행하는데 필요한 물질적인 지원은 교사 행위주체성의 발현을 지원하는 요소들이었다. 반면에, 대입을 위하여 학생의 성취를 강조하는 담론, 구체적인 실행과 관련한 지원의 부재, 지식 전달자로서 교사의 역할에 대한 강조, 실행에 대한 성찰의 부재는 교사 행위주체성 발현에 제약이 되었다. 본 연구는 실제 교육 현장에서 어떠한 교사 행위주체성이 발현되며, 그때 영향을 미치는 요인이 무엇인지 규명하였다. 이를 통하여 교사 행위주체성의 발현을 통한 교사들의 주체적이고 전문적인 실행을 지원하는 데 유용한 시각을 제시하고자 한다.
