본 연구는 과체중 및 비만 또는 복부비만 성인을 대상으로 8주간 중강도 수준의 필라테스 운동 후 필라테스 운동의 순응도에 따른 신체조성, 균형능력 및 기초대사 지표의 변화를 확인하였고, 식생활습관 개선교육후 영양지수의 변화도 함께 살펴보았다. 필라테스 운동에 대한 순응도가 높은 군이 순응도가 낮은 군에 비해 신체의 균형도와 체구성에 더 긍정적인 변화를 보였고 더불어 혈관노화지수도 유의적으로 개선되었고 공복혈당당화혈색소가 유의적으로 개선되었다. 그러나 필라테스 운동에 대해 순응도가 낮은 군이라도 실시하지 않았던 것에 비해서 신체균형도, 체질량지수 및 피하지방 면적은 유의적으로 개선되었다. 이는 순응군과 비순응군 모두에서 영양지수가 개선된 것과, 순응도 여부에 관계없이 전체 대상자에서 식생활 교육 후에 하루 식사횟수, 아침식사횟수, 식사의 규칙성, 과식 및 외식횟수 등이 긍정적인 방향으로 변동된 것과 관련이 있을 것으로 판단된다. 따라서, 본 연구는 필라테스 운동과 식생활 개선교육을 포함한 전반적인 생활습관의 개선을 통해 과체중 이상의 여성에서 유의미한 개선 결과가 있음을 보여주고 있다. 더불어 식생활습관 개선 교육만으로도 어느정도 비만관련 지표의 개선에 영향을 줄 수 있을 것이며, 필라테스 운동을 함께 실시했을 때에는 그 개선 효과가 좀더 잘 관찰되는 것으로 판단된다.
