본 연구는 블록체인 기술이 현재 각 영역에서 어떻게 적용되고 있는지와 함께 그 블록체인을 구성하는 방법과 한계를 살펴보고, 이어 블록체인 기술이 제시하는 미래의 모습을 가늠해 보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이 같은 블록체인 기술이 함축하고 있는 지향은 일정 부분 기술적 난제를 얼마나 빨리 극복하느냐에서 그 성공적 적용이나 실현 여부가 결정된다. 이 논문에서는 블록체인 기술의 진보를 기반으로 투명성과 신뢰성이 향상될 때, 산업의 영역뿐만 아닌, 경제나 정치적 영역에서 세상을 바꾸는 주요한 힘으로 작용하게 될 것이라는 점에 주목한다. 설사 블록체인 기술이 보여주는 문제의식이 현실의 문제를 해결하는 가장 효율적인 최선의 길이 될 수 없다고 하더라도, 이것이 제시하는 틀은 우리가 대면한 현실의 문제를 이해하는 주요한 창이 되어줄 것이다.
