Fourteen composite food group samples (42 food, total 210 samples) collected in five major cities have been analysed for a range of dioxins (29 congeners; PCDD/Fs 17 congeners and DL-PCBs 12 congeners), total PCBs(62 congeners) and indicator PCBs (7 congeners) using the isotope dilution method, HRGC
Fourteen composite food group samples (42 food, total 210 samples) collected in five major cities have been analysed for a range of dioxins (29 congeners; PCDD/Fs 17 congeners and DL-PCBs 12 congeners), total PCBs(62 congeners) and indicator PCBs (7 congeners) using the isotope dilution method, HRGC/HRMS and HRGC/MSD. For the test method validation, extraction efficiency and cleanup patterns of multi-column for various food samples have been tested. Based on the measured Dioxins levels, an average daily dietary intake estimate of Dioxins was calculated.

Most congeners of 62 PCBs were detected in food and major congeners were T4CB, P5CB. In case of fish and shellfish, the indicator PCBs(#138, #153 and #101, #118) were mainly congeners and the ratio of Σ7 PCBs and Σ62 PCBs were 38% in cereal, 40% in vegetable, 37% in fruit, 36% in eggs, 36% in sugars, 42% in legumes, 41% in fish and shellfish, 35% in milk and dairy products, 42% in oils, and 38% in meat and meat products, beverages & alcohol 29%, seasonings 38%, and seaweed 42% respectively.
For exposure assessment of Dioxins, the dietary intake was estimated at 10.7% compared to TDI(4 pg TEQ/kg bw/day) of Korea and the average Korean body weight of 60kg. and for exposure assessment of Σ62 PCBs, the dietary intake was estimated at 0.23% compared to TDI(5 μg/kg bw/day) set by Japan. Consequently, Dioxins, total PCBs and indicator PCBs detected were not considered to cause adverse health effects on Koreans. In addition, correlations values obtained by applying simple regression analysis between Dioxins (sum of PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs) and DL-PCBs was shown strong correlations between Σ62 PCBs and indicator PCBs .
