The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of the children with specific language impairment in mind theory, emotional understanding and sociability compared to typical children. For this, the research on mind theory, emotional understanding and sociability was conducted with 30 children with specific language impairments aged 4 and 6 and with 31 typical children of the same chronological age. Mind theory was measured by a classic false-belief task and a second-order false belief task, emotional understanding was measured by an emotion recognition task and an affective perspective taking task, and sociability was measured by the Korean-Social skill rating scale for preschoolers. The findings were as follows. First, in the development of theory of mind there were significant differences between typical children and children with specific language impairment. And the development of children with specific language impairments in theory of mind was also shown differently according to age. In theory of mind task, the children with specific language impairments aged 4 showed significantly lower level of development than the children with specific language impairments aged 6. Second, in the development of emotional understanding there were significant differences between typical children and children with specific language impairment. And the development of children with specific language impairments in emotional understanding was also shown differently according to age. In an emotion understanding task, the 4-year-old children with specific language impairment showed significantly lower level of development than the 6-year-old children with specific language impairment. Third, in the development of sociability there were significant differences between typical children and children with specific language impairment.
