Since listening to music not only inspires the sense of national culture, but also purifies human emotion, it enables the formation of creative and holistic human character. Considering the emotional aspect of music education, traditional music with ideas and feeling of Koreans are dissolved in, is an important cultural media that can develop and foster unique national belief. Also, to create and lead our music culture, Korean traditional musica education is emphasized. However, students and teachers who are accustomed to listening to the western music both have bias on traditional music that it is difficult or awkward to listen to, and due to the lack of understanding on the piece, education is difficult and carried out in passive manner. Therefore, this study selected , which is commonly presented throughout the texts of middle and high school, and contemplated the right way of appreciation of traditional music and effective teaching method. Also, this study was carried out with the consideration of practical and easily applicable teaching method that the teacher could utilize in the teaching site while conducting the traditional music appreciation education from beginning to end. Music appreciation teaching methods based on sensible appreciation, analytic appreciation, and esthetic appreciation were examined. Sensible appreciation refers to the method concentrating on the music played and feeling the subtle beauty of melody. Analytic appreciation objectively understands the esthetic contents through the activity of examining the basic components of music such as rhythm, melody, chord, dynamic, tone, tempo, and form. Lastly, the teaching method for esthetic appreciation is designed with appreciation activity of searching diverse inner and external beauty of music and at the same time evaluating the value of the music. Through this study, we expect to increase the educational effect of Korean traditional instrumental piece and also increase the pride towards the traditional culture.
