In science education, inquiry is critical, and various pedagogical inquiry styles have been researched due to the 2015 educational amendment. In particular, student participation in class has been emphasized as opposed to a typical lecture type class. As a result of the aforementioned amendment, people have and are continuing to suggest various and novel ideas for pedagogical inquiries. The purpose of this paper is to research the types of pedagogical inquiry activities found in scientific research and experiment textbooks; textbooks which were based on the inquiry activities contained within the 2015 educational amendment based participatory curriculum. The inquiry activities found in seven separate scientific inquiry textbooks were classified and sorted by textbook and by chapter. There were 43 total inquiry activities in textbook “A”, 30 in textbook “B”, 51 in textbook “C”, 34 in textbook “D”, 34 in textbook “E”, 35 in textbook “F”, and 31 in textbook “G”. The average for the types of inquiry activities across the seven textbooks was 6.3 for Discussion types, 14.4 for Research and Presentation types, 4.4 for Creating Activity type, 1 for the Project type, 10.7 for the Observation type. The Research and Presentation type made up the greatest proportion of inquiries, while the project type was the least represented type of inquiry. Across textbooks, the average number of sub-elements was 234. The total sub-elements within the books was 182 for textbook “A”, and 288 for textbook “G“. Across textbooks, the least represented types of sub-elements were ”Discussion“ and ”Intuition“ with an average of 1.1 and 1.8 respectively. The sub-elements with the greatest representation were the ”Survey“ and ”Narrative“ sub-elements, with an average of 33.2 and 49.2 respectively. Based on these findings, I endorse the use of the 2015 curriculum and consider pedagogical implications. In addition, I propose ways to execute student participation focused classes and methods by which to evaluate those classes in conjunction with my predictions on progressive change in the educational field.
