Classification of Aggression and Social Withdrawal in Early Childhood : Using Latent Profile Analysis원문보기

The purpose of this study was to identify the latent profiles of aggression and social withdrawal of early childhood, to investigate the characteristics of each latent profile, and to demonstrate the differences in peer competence among profiles in order to figure out the heterogeneous characteristics of problem behaviors during early childhood. The subjects of the study were 376 children aged 3, 4, and 5 and their teachers in five daycare centers and four kindergartens located in Busan. For data analysis, this study applied to latent profile analysis to derive latent profiles, and three-step approach to determine if there was a significant difference in peer competence among profiles. The results of this study were as follows: Aggression and social withdrawal of early childhood were found in five profiles groups (middle aggression and low social withdrawal: 25.1%, unsociability dominated: 5.7%, middle: 44.7%, shyness and unsociability: 11.4%, high aggression and social withdrawal: 13.1% ) (AIC = 3297.165, BIC = 3430.771, Entropy = 0.924, BLMR <.001). The results of three-step approach were sociality, prosocial behavior and leadership the difference between the profiles groups was significant. This study is meaningful in identifying the various profiles of children's aggression and social withdrawal and identifying the characteristics of each profile. This suggests that a separate and concrete approach is needed when intervening and mediating maladjustment behaviors in early childhood. In addition, by confirming the peer competence difference between profiles, the results will provide basic data for programs designed to help the children who show maladaptive behavior in early childhood education institutions.
