The purpose of the present study was to develop and validate a Counselor’s Factors Rating Scale (CFRS), which examines the counselor's factor measurement of therapeutic common factors related to counseling outcomes. Two interrelated studies were conducted. For the pilot study, examined the psychometric properties of the CFRS based on the findings from the concept mapping and inductive analysis reviewing of existing literature. 56 preliminary questions in 3 sub-factors had been derived: Counselor Intervention; Counselor attitudes; Counselor therapeutic presence. Two rounds of experts-contents-validity was confirmed, the contents of the selected items were validated by 6 counseling psychologists and on 14 counseling professionals, finally 38 items were selected. After a pilot test with 200 actual clients and exploratory factor analysis, the 3 components and 27 items were identified. In the second step, through the main study conducted with 348 actual clients nationwide and the following confirmatory factor analysis, 27 items of the hierarchical second-order 3 factor model were determined. The confirmatory factor analysis showed a reasonable model fit index for this three-factor structure of the CFRS. In the cross validation test through the model comparison, it was confirmed that the factor and the covariance were the same in the two groups (paid and free groups). The results from a convergent and discriminant validity indicated that the CFRS significantly correlation with the Counselor Rating (CRF-S) significant discrepancy between Social Desirability Scale (SDS) was identified. A concurrent criterion-related validity analysis indicated that CFRS is negatively correlated with subjective well-being's Negative Affect Scale (PANAS) and positively correlated with Working Alliance Inventory (WAI-S), Client Satisfaction Questionnaire (CSQ-C) and subjective well-being's Positive Affect Scale (PANAS). Hierarchical regression analysis was further performed to show that the CFRS explains more variances. Thus, CFRS demonstrated satisfactory convergent and discriminant validity, criterion-related validity, and incremental validity were generally supported. Since the validity of the hierarchical structure model of the counselor factor has been demonstrated, it is significant in that a comprehensive understanding of the counselor factor is possible. Through this study, we can provide basic data for counselor research. Finally, the significance, limitations, and suggestions for further study were discussed.
