This study compared and analyzed the current elective-centered curriculum of revised in 2015 with the elective-centered curriculum of revised in 2022, which is scheduled to be implemented in 2025. Each curriculum was compared and analyzed based on the curriculum documents promulgated by the Ministry of Education, and the scope of this study is limited to characteristics and goals, content system and achievement criteria, and teaching/learning and evaluation of each curriculum.
Firstly, the 2015 and 2022 revisions of the music-centered education curriculum "Music" underwent changes in its 'document structure.' The 2022 revision introduced an 'overview of curriculum design,' and combined 'character' and 'goals' from the 2015 revision into 'character and goals' in the 2022 revision. This was modified due to an increase in content, changes in emphasis, and other factors.
Secondly, the 'character and goals' of the 2015 and 2022 music-centered curriculum revisions revealed changes in content and structure. In terms of 'character,' the aspects of 'the essence of the music subject,' 'music subject competencies,' and 'the relevance of the music subject to other subjects' were removed. Instead, 'the necessity of the music subject,' 'the role of the music subject,' and 'educational outcomes for learners' were newly introduced. The 2022 revision aimed to foster individuals capable of future-oriented communication as an overarching goal, detailing sub-goals through the linkage with competencies.
Thirdly, in the 'content structure and achievement standards' of the 2015 and 2022 music curriculum revisions, changes were observed in both composition and content. The expression area from the 2015 revision became the performance area in 2022, and the life application area in 2015 became the creation area in 2022, altering the 'content structure and achievement standards.' The 'core concepts' and 'generalized knowledge' of the 2015 revision were revised to 'core ideas' in 2022, and content from the deleted life application area was introduced as new items starting with 'in human life.' The achievement standards also incorporated new items starting with 'in everyday life,' reflecting the removal of the life application area.
Fourthly, in the 'teaching-learning and assessment' section of the 2015 and 2022 revisions, new components such as 'teaching-learning methods' and 'assessment methods' were identified. The revised content includes customized and individualized student-centric teaching plans, online and offline class strategies utilizing digital devices and media, and assessment strategies using music engineering and digital tools, emphasizing individualized assessment in customized teaching-learning scenarios.
To effectively utilize the 2022 revised curriculum in response to unpredictable changes, low birth rates, and digital transformation, it is deemed necessary to research textbooks, learning materials, and assessment tools tailored to AI and digital advancements and individualized lessons. This study aims to aid in the development of learning materials and assessment tools by comparing and analyzing the currently implemented 2015 and 2022 music-centered curriculums, anticipating their application in high school settings and contributing to the decentralization and autonomy of the curriculum.
