알코올의존이 야기하는 경제적, 사회적인 측면에서의 문제는? 알코올의존은 알코올성 위염, 간경화 등과 같은 신체적 질환을 유발하고, 우울장애, 불안장애, 알코올성치매 등의 다양한 정신장애를 일으키는 요인으로 작용하고 있으며, 가정폭력과 아동학대 및 가족해체 등과 같은 심각한 가족적 문제의 원인이 되기도 한다. 또한 법적 문제를 야기하거나 직업 활동의 장애, 대인관계와 사회적 관계의 손실을 초래하는 등 경제적, 사회적인 측면에서도 매우 부정적인 영향을 미치게 된다(Cha, 2008). 더구나 알코올의존자의 자살률은 일반인들에 비해 약 6-12배 (Murphy &Wetzel, 1990)가 높으며, 우울증이 동반되었을 경우 무려 30배가 넘는 것(Kim, 2002)으로 보고되고 있어 이들을 위한 보다 적극적이고 효과적인 간호중재가 요구되는 실정이다.
