The aim of this study was to investigate the behavioral changes of laying hens in an aviary system. In this study, 500 laying hens (Hyline brown) were held in an aviary system in a open-type poultry house. The behaviors of laying hens were recorded using CCD cameras and a digital video recorder. The data were scanned every 2 min to obtain an instantaneous behavioral sample. In the behaviors of laying hens, 'Feeding' and 'Drinking' increased from 3 d placing chick and stabilized after 5 d placing chick. 'Perching' increased from 19:00 to 05:00, while 'Nest visiting' increased from 06:00 to 18:00. 'Aggressive behavior' decreased gradually after 5 d placing chick. These results suggest that the behaviors of laying hens are changed rapidly for about 5 days after placing chick and the behaviors of the laying hens are almost stabilized at 5 d placing chick.

대상 데이터

산란계사는 개방형태의 축사이었으며, 바닥은 흙바닥으로 전체 면적은 약 80m2 이었다. 축사 내에 다단식 산란계 사육시설을 설치하였으며, 80일령 산란계 (Hyline Brown) 500수를 공시하였다. 다단식 산란계 사육시설은 층별로 급이기, 급수기와 산란상, 횃대가 설치되어 있으며, 집란장치와 계분벨트 등의 자동화 시설을 갖추었다 (Fig.

성능/효과

닭은 본능적으로 포식자들의 위험으로부터 벗어나기 위해 높은 곳에서 자려는 습성이 있으며, 횃대의 이용은 조명과 밀접한 관계를 갖는다. 본 연구결과, 아침부터 (5:00) 횃대의 사용빈도가 급격히 감소하고, 저녁부터(19:00) 다시 횃대의 사용빈도가 증가하는 것을 볼 수 있었으며 (Fig. 4), 이러한 패턴은 실험기간 내내 동일하게 반복 되었다. 주간 횃대 사용은 바닥 내 밀도를 감소시키고, 서열이 높은 닭으로부터 피해 있을 수 있는 공간을 마련해줌으로써 세력간의 다툼이 줄고 공격행동이 감소하는 등 동물복지 차원에서 긍정적인 영향을 미친다 (Cordiner and Savory, 2000).
사료섭취행동과 음수행동에 있어 입추 후 3일 이후 동일하게 아침과 저녁 2번에 거쳐서 급격히 증가하였으며 (Fig. 1), 입추 후 5일 이후부터는 안정화되는 경향을 나타내었다. 대부분의 사료섭취행동은 동시에 일어나는 경향이 있는데, 사료섭취 공간이 충분히 제공되지 않는다면, 산란계의 사료섭취에 문제가 발생할 수도 있을 것이다.
사료섭취행동과 음수행동에 있어 입추 후 3일 이후 동일하게 아침과 저녁 2번에 거쳐서 급격히 증가하였으며 (Fig. 2; Fig. 3), 입추 후 5일 이후부터는 안정화되는 경향을 나타내었다. 이는 사료섭취행동 (5:00~7:00, 16:00~18:00) 후 바로 음수행동 (6:00~8:00, 17:00~19:00)을 하는 것으로 판단되며, 아침보다 저녁에 상대적으로 음수행동이 더 빈번하게 관찰되었는데 수면을 취하기 전에 물을 충분히 섭취하려는 행동적 특성이라 생각된다.
입추 후 3일, 오전 첫 산란상 방문은 6:00~7:00 사이에 발생하였으며, 하루 중 산란상방문 빈도수가 오전보다는 오후에 더 높은 것으로 관찰되었다. 하지만 5일째부터 오전 첫 산란상 방문 시기가 5:00~6:00 사이로 빨라졌으며, 동시에 오후 산란상 방문 빈도수에 비하여 오전 산란상 방문 빈도수가 점점 높아지기 시작하였다 (Fig.
