This study investigated associations between attachment and friendship. This study also examined the mediating effects of empathy on the association between two variables. Participants consisted of $4^{th}$ to $6^{th}$ grade elementary school children including 173 boys and 141 girls. Two elementary schools were located in Seoul and Bucheon. Children participated in a peer nomination interview. They nominated their three most liked peers. Children's responses to the best friend of the peer nomination identified the children's best friends. A Friendship Quality Scale measured children's positive friendship quality and friendship satisfaction. Children completed the Inventory of the Parent and Peer Attachment Scale that assessed maternal and paternal attachment. In addition, they completed a children's version of the Empathy Quotient that measured empathy. Pearson's correlation and Structural Equation Modeling were used to analyse the data. The results indicated that attachment had a direct influence on friendship network. Children who had the high levels of attachment security had large friendship network. However, attachment did not have a significant effect on friendship quality. Moreover, empathy had mediating effects on the association between attachment and friendship quality as well as the friendship network. The results of this research highlight the importance of attachment and empathy on children's friendship.

제안 방법

변인들 사이의 경로를 검증하기 위하여 구조방정식 모형분석을 실시하였다. 모형 적합도는 x²검증과 TLI, CFI 및 RMSEA를 적합도 지수로 사용하였다.
본 연구의 자료 수집을 위하여 초등학교를 방문하고 연구 참여에 동의한 담임교사에게 연구의 목적, 조사방법 및 유의 사항을 전달하였으며 각 학급에서 설문에 동의한 아동들에 한하여 설문을 실시한 후 완성된 설문지를 회수하였다.
각 하위영역 별로 4문항씩 총 36문항으로 구성되며 Likert식 4점 척도이다. 부정적 친구관계 질의 문항을 역채점하고 긍정적 친구관계 질로 합산한 후, 긍정적 친구 관계와 친구관계 만족도의 2가지 하위영역의 점수를 산출하였다. 친구관계 질 척도의 하위영역별 Cronbach’s a를 보면 교제의 즐거움 .

대상 데이터

연구대상은 서울시와 부천시에 위치한 2개의 초등학교 4, 5, 6학년 아동 314명으로 남아는 173명(55.1%), 여아는 141명(44.9%)이였다. 학년 별로 연구대상의 수를 보면 4학년 97명(30.

부모애착은 Armsden과 Greenberg (1987)가 개발하고 Oh(1999)가 번안한 부모 및 또래애착 척도(Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment-Revised)에서 부모에 대한 애착 문항을 사용하여 측정하였다. 이 척도는 부애착과 모애착을 측정하는 신뢰감 10문항(예: 부모님은 내 감정을 존중해주신다), 의사소통 9문항(예: 나는 부모님께 내 문제와 어려움에 대하여 말씀드린다)과 소외감 6문항(예: 나는 부모님으로부터 별 관심을 받지 못한다.
아동의 공감능력은 Auyeung 등(2009)이 개발한 EQ-C (Children’s version of the Empathy Quotient)를 Cha 등(2011)이 번안한 자기보고형 한국어판 EQ-C 척도를 사용하였다.

또한 매개모델을 분석한 결과, 공감능력은 친구관계망과 친구 관계 질에 영향을 주었으며 공감능력이 높을수록 친구관계 질의 수준이 높고 친구 수가 많은 것으로 나타났다. 기존의 공감능력과 또래관계에 대한 연구결과를 보면, 공감능력이 발달된 아동은 사교적이며 주도적인 또래관계를 형성하였고(Woo, 2013) 또래 괴롭힘 피해 및 가해의 수준이 모두 낮았다(Jung & Cho, 2011) 따라서 친구관계에 초점을 둔 본 연구결과는 선행연구를 확장하여 공감능력이 학령기 아동의 친구수와 같은 양적인 측면뿐만 아니라 친구관계의 긍정적 질을 포함한 전반적인 친구관계 경험에 영향을 미침을 보여준다.
애착이 공감능력에 미치는 직접효과가 있었으며(β=.598, p＜.001), 공감능력이 친구관계 질에 미치는 직접 효과(β=.724, p＜.001)와 친구관계망에 미치는 직접효과가 유의하였다(β=.219, p＜.05).
이상에서 살펴본 선행연구들을 종합해보면 안정애착 아동은 타인의 정서를 이해하고 이에 적절하게 반응해주는 공감능력을 발달시킬 수 있으며, 이러한 공감능력은 친구관계망과 친구관계 질과 밀접한 관련성이 있음을 알 수 있다. 즉 선행연구에 근거해볼 때 애착은 아동의 친구관계에 직접적인 영향을 줄 수 있으며, 공감능력을 매개로 애착이 친구관계에 간접적으로 영향을 미칠 수 있다.
첫째, 애착은 아동의 친구관계망에 직접적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 안정애착이 아동에게 사회적 환경을 탐색할 수 있는 안전 기지를 제공해주어 여러 명의 또래들과 확장된 친구관계를 형성하는데 직접적인 영향을 미침을 의미한다.

후속연구

본 연구는 횡단 연구 설계에 근거하여 얻어진 결과이므로 변인들 간의 관련성을 인과관계로 해석하는데 제한점이 있다. 따라서 종단 연구 설계에 의한 추후 연구를 통하여 인과관계에 대하여 알 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구에서 아동의 자기 보고법을 사용하였으므로 부모 및 교사와 같이 다른 정보원을 활용한 추후 연구가 실시될 수 있을 것이다.
